Fire Chief, Denton, Texas (pop. Approximately 135,000) – The City of Denton is seeking a Fire Chief to lead the Fire Department. The Denton Fire Department (DFD) provides emergency medical services, emergency management, fire prevention and fire suppression for the city, in addition to overseeing the Community Improvement Services Division (Code Enforcement). The Fire Department is staffed by 186.00 sworn personnel and 5.25 full time civilians, Community Improvement Services has 11.00 full-time civilians. For Fiscal Year 2017-18 the combined operating budget for the Fire Department and Community Improvement Services is $30,572,874. The Denton Fire Department is a Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143 Department, and recently improved the ISO rating from a three to a two.

The Fire Chief is appointed by and reports directly to the City Manager. Candidates should have thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention, emergency management, and emergency medical services principals, practices, techniques, and equipment. Considerable knowledge of budget preparation and administration, personnel policies and practices, labor relations, staff supervision, evaluation and professional development is highly desirable. Well-developed communication skills and the proven ability to exhibit a collaborative, welcoming approach with elected officials, residents, the business community, and employees is necessary.
Starting Salary range is $128,370 to $165,000 DOQ; full salary range is up to $213,094.
