State of Illinois - Local Government Association - Executive Director

A newly formed state wide local government organization seeks well-qualified candidates with state, local government, and/or professional association management experience for this high-profile, full-time Executive Director position based in Springfield, IL.

About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity to lead this newly formed organization that will focus on local government issues for its members.  The Director will be responsible for growing membership, developing strategic initiatives, and building a solid organizational purpose. 

Appointed by the Executive Committee on behalf of the full Board and membership, the Executive Director will hire and supervise staff and administer an annual budget. The Director oversees the day to day operations and will actively participate in policy development and services provided.  

Position Requirements

Successful candidate must possess:

  • a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (advanced degree preferred),
  • with a minimum 10 years of progressively higher levels of responsibility in governmental administration, association management, Illinois legislative processes
  • or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience. 

Compensation and Benefits    

The starting salary will be market competitive in the range of $120K-$150K, DOQ. Subject to negotiation on salary and benefits, the Director may serve in a contract position as the new organization is formed.
